2018 Reserve Proprietors Blend
2018 Vintage Recap: February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat created near-ideal conditions for winemakers to allow their fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels. Volume was great, up 20-30% increase over average crop quantity
Winemaker Notes: The goal was to balance the Clone 7 Cabernet Sauvignon with the Clone 181 Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah from Oakville. Wine from two worlds. Mountain Top Cabernet and Valley Floor blending varietals. The structure and backbone from 40-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon Vines and the equipoise of silk from the traditional Boudreaux varietals; 50% new and 50% neutral barrels. The Petite Sirah balances out the softness of the merlot which has a bit of a black olive earthiness with a soft tannin structure.
